Overview
Pirate parties are exciting to throw all year long. They can be used to celebrate a birthday or just to get your friends together for a day of fun. Both adults and children can participate in a pirate party. To throw one, you must first find a friend or family member to help you. There will be too much for one person to handle.
Step 1
Pick a date and a time for your party. The date should be one on which the majority of your guests can attend, perhaps a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
Step 2
Create invitations by drawing a pirate ship or a skull and crossbones on the front cover. Place the party information on the inside. Let guests know they should come dressed as pirates.
Step 3
Plan your food. Pirate stew is easy to make and will feed your whole crew. For the recipe, see Resources. You may want to make some cornbread or biscuits to go with the stew.
Step 4
Plan your drinks. Pirates are known for drinking beer, but if you don't want an alcoholic party, serve non-alcoholic beer. Buy root beer for guests younger than 21.
Step 5
Put up some decorations. These decorations should be white and black. You may also want to lay around some skeletons or skulls. You can usually find these on clearance after Halloween.
Step 6
Buy a treasure box at a craft store and decorate it. Fill it with fake gold coins or fake plastic jewels. If you have the money, you can fill the treasure box with change. The night before the party, bury your treasure in the backyard.
Step 7
Make a treasure map with clues to your treasure. Hand the first clue out to guests, and then they must find the remaining clues. This will take some planning. Use outdoor fixtures, the mailbox or a car trunk as hiding places.
Step 8
Draw a pirate on a piece of poster board, and then make some eye patches out of construction paper. Have the children play "pin the eye patch on the pirate." You will need a blindfold or two eye patches so the kids can't see.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
- TIP : Have guests bring something they consider a treasure to share with everyone else.
- WARNING : Watch the children carefully if you're providing plastic swords.
