Overview
Attending a social club is a great way to get to know people in your community with common interests, hobbies or life stages. If you do not have a social club in your area that meets your needs, consider starting your own. Before long you will be meeting people at your very own social club event.
How to Start a Social Club
Step 1
Choose a theme for your social club. Come up with a theme that does not already exist in order to draw people to something new. Your social club could be geared toward people who enjoy the same types of activities such as hiking or camping. Your club could be geared toward a certain life stage or age demographic such as single young adults. You may start a club for people interested in the same type of hobby such as quilting or painting. You may even start a club of people with a similar background, for instance, graduates of a certain college. Choose any theme you think will attract members.
Step 2
Ask a person or two to help you organize things. They can help you brainstorm ideas for group activities such as mixers, pot luck dinners and outings.
Step 3
Decide how often you want the group to meet. Your group could meet once a month on a weeknight or every other Saturday. Think of a time that most members of your group would be available.
Step 4
Secure a location to meet. Many restaurants, like Einstein Bagels and Panera Bread, have rooms available for meetings and will reserve the room at no charge. Estimate how many people will attend to make sure the location is the appropriate size. Pick a location that people from all over town could get to in a relatively short amount of time.
Step 5
Promote your social club. One of the keys to starting a social club is having people attend the meetings. Target the specific demographic you want to have in your club. If you are starting a Christian social club, advertise your club in church bulletins. If you are staring a club for people who like biking, post fliers at the gym, bike trails and local bike stores. You may also want to use social networking sites such as Facebook to promote your club by starting a page about your club. You may want to visit blogs that relate to the focus of your club and promote it there.
