Overview
One way to kick the Wild West into full gear is to throw a saloon-themed party. While the decorating for such an event may seem elaborate, it can be created rather simply. A good eye for Western flair and a visit to neighborhood thrift shops, craft stores and dollar stores are all you need to decorate a saloon party.
Step 1
Make fake, swinging doors. Get a large piece of paper, poster board or foam core that is at least 6 feet high and 4 feet wide. Paint or draw a pair of swinging doors about one-third of the way down. The doors should be shut. Paint or draw cowboys and other saloon types hanging out behind the door. Hang in a visible area. This is your centerpiece.
Step 2
Hook up the walls. Posters are a great saloon addition. Invest in poster board, paints or markers and create at least three of them. One should picture a foaming beer mug with the words "Beer corral." Another should promote any saloon entertainment such as "Can can dancing every Thursday," "Sure shooter matches Sunday mornings" and "Cowboy beer guzzling contest Monday afternoon." Use block letters with swirls and scrolls on the ends for a saloon effect. Draw images to match the posters' text.
Step 3
Add hay and horse decor. Get hay from your local feed or craft supply store. Tie bundles with decorative string and ribbon and place strategically around the room or hang from the walls. Add some horse decor that can range from everything from small, plastic or plush horses from the dollar store to real horseshoes displayed on a counter or wall.
Step 4
Throw in some cowboy gear. Now's the time to prop up those cowboy boots, hats, chaps and any other cowboy decor around the house. Find items at thrift, vintage and western shops. Drape the items on the back of the couch or chairs, prop near the front door or on shelving units, or hang from the wall.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
