Whether you're planning on building a small bar that seats two people or a bar large enough to accommodate a crowd of friends and neighbors, there are outdoor bar plans for every type of situation. Read on to learn more about plans to build outdoor bars.
Plans to Build Outdoor Bars
Step 1
Learn how much space you have to work with. Measure the outdoor area where you want to build your bar. Record the dimensions in a sketchbook. Keep in mind that the average home bar is 40 inches high and 2 feet deep. Knowing how large or small of a space you have to work with will help you narrow down your choices when you look for outdoor bar plans.
Step 2
Consider what type of outdoor bar you want to build. Rectangular and L-shaped plans require more space and will cost you more in materials, while simple straight bars will cost significantly less to build.
Step 3
Create a level surface. Regardless of which bar plan you decide to use, you need to start with a flat and level surface. If you don't already have a patio or deck, use a handheld leveling device to find a flat surface on which to build your bar. Consider installing a brick patio or concrete slab.
Step 4
Look for plans to build outdoor bars on the website Home Bar Plans Online (see Resources). For a fee, the website will send you complete plans for building your own 6-foot outdoor tiki bar. The plans are outlined in 13 steps and include a detailed list of all materials needed.
Step 5
Visit the Canadian Plywood Association's website for a free bar plan. The plywood bar can be used both indoors and outdoors. The plans include a material list, detailed drawings and building tips. The website recommends that you use Canadian plywood to build the bar, but any high-quality plywood will do.
Step 6
Visit the design center of a home supply store such as Home Depot or Lowe's and purchase an outdoor bar plan. Talk to the employees about your project and see if they have any experience with making an outdoor bar.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
