Overview
It is becoming cheaper and safer to stay home and have a few drinks rather than go out and spend way to much money while risking the chance of getting stopped for drunk driving. If you enjoy the taste of a good tap beer rather than drinking from a bottle or can, you can learn how to make a beer keg refrigerator. After you see how easy it is to make, you will want to make one right away and enjoy the comforts of your own home along with a good-tasting beer.
Step 1
Select a refrigerator that will hold a half or quarter barrel of beer. Take the shelves out of the unit by tilting to the side and pulling out. Remove any clips that could get in the way when you are moving the barrel in and out of the beer refrigerator.
Step 2
Use a cutting tool to cut a hole in the refrigerator door that is a little higher than the top of the barrel of beer. Check the beer tapper kit to find the correct size of the hole. Every kit could have different dimensions for the hole size. A drill with a large-enough drill bit will work for cutting the hole.
Step 3
Use the same drill with a smaller drill bit to cut the hole in the side of the refrigerator down closer to the bottom. This is where the Co2 cylinder hose will fit through. Make the hole the size recommended by the beer tapper kit. Place the rubber stopper over the Co2 hose and run it into the refrigerator.
Step 4
Attach the beer tapper to the front of the refrigerator. Remember to place the rubber stopper over the hose so you will be able to seal the hole tightly around the tapper. Use the wrench to tighten the tapper to the barrel, and tighten the nut on the part of the tapper outside of the refrigerator. Attach the tapper to the barrel.
Step 5
Attach the Co2 hose to the tapper on the barrel. See the directions with the beer tapper kit to see the correct location as all beer tapper kits can be different. Then shut the door and turn on the refrigerator to allow beer to get cold.
Step 6
Adjust the Co2 after the beer is cold to make sure it flows without having a lot of foam. This can take a few tries. Once the tapper is set, you should not have to adjust the Co2 until the next barrel.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
- WARNING : Always turn off the Co2 when changing barrels of beer.
