Overview
Building your own basement bar will add beauty and style to your finished basement. This is a great way to entertain friends and family. You can plan a special gathering and have a wonderful place for your events, not to mention a perfect place to store your favorite wines and bourbons. This fun and fulfilling project will add dimension to your finished basement. There are many styles to choose from; this is a simple plan for a basement bar.
Step 1
Clear the area to begin work. Use the shorter wall to build. Measure the area and start with framing the area with the 2-inch x 4-inch lumber. Cut the lumber about 4 feet tall and about 6 feet long. Use the cement screws and power drill to attach the lumber to the floor.
Step 2
Frame this by adding 2-inch by 4-inch lumber to what will be the ends. Use cement screws and a power drill to attach these to the floor. Use two 2-foot x 4-foot pieces of lumber and attach them to what will the ends. Then nail the 4-foot x 6-foot lumber to the outside of the bar. It will look like a square "C."
Step 3
Attach the counter top that was previously measured and cut to fit the top, it should have about a 6-inch overhang. Do this by using the hammer to nail the counter top underneath the frame; it will hide any nail holes. This counter top should match the leather or vinyl of your choice.
Step 4
Attach the leather or vinyl by using finishing nails or a staple gun. Pull it taut as you attach it. You can cover any nails or staples with furniture cover up.
Step 5
Fix electrical outlets where you will be using appliances to make mix drinks. You may want to add racks to hang your glasses for a more public bar feel.
Use your lighting and fixtures to add a hanging light over the bar. This can add color and beauty to your bar.
Step 6
Hang your mirror on the back wall. Carefully, use decorative screws and attach them where the corners will be to fasten the mirror.
Set your stools around your new bar.
