Overview
Everyone needs a party hat to wear when they have a good time. Beer box hats are popular choices because they're easy to make, great conversation starters, fun to wear to a variety of parties and events, and something that sets the tone for party time. You can even make beer box hats for everyone coming to a party, such as a Superbowl bash, tailgate party, cowboy casino night or adult-only birthday party.
Step 1
Flatten out the boxes by opening the sides and unfolding the boxes completely. Make sure the boxes are flat and smooth. If there are any lumps or uneven sections, then try to flatten them as much as possible.
Step 2
Take a shoelace and wrap it around the largest section of your head. Hold your finger on the shoelace as a marker for how big your head is. Lay one of the cardboard boxes on a flat surface, face down, so the brown cardboard side is upward. Place the shoelace on the cardboard box in the shape of your head to the length you marked with your finger. Trace this shape with a pencil.
Step 3
Cut the shape out; this will be the top of the hat. Lay out another cardboard box, again right-side down so the brown side is up. Place the piece you just cut out on the cardboard. Trace it with a pencil and remove the piece. Set a compass in the center of the traced shape. Extend the compass pencil point out 3 inches from the edge. Draw the circle 3 inches out from the edge all the way around. Cut around the outer circle. Then cut out the inner circle. The ring you are left with will be the brim of the hat.
Step 4
Use the third box to cut out a long strip about 4 inches deep. Cut the strip long enough so it can wrap all the way around the top of the hat. Fold the edges of this strip and the top of the hat so they connect. Staple in place. Continue to shape these edges so they touch all the way around and staple as you go. Take the brim of hat and fold the inside edges of the hat down under the brim. Staple these edges in place.
Step 5
Paint the hat, if you wish to do so. Use a small paintbrush and cover all of the hat. Allow it to dry before putting on. However, if you would rather keep the beer logo from the box, then just begin wearing your hat.
TIPS AND WARNINGS
- TIP : Choose a beer box brand that you like to show it off so you can be proud to wear it.
- WARNING : Be careful not to set anything on top of the hat as it will be crushed.
