Beer of the Day # 2 - Red Hook's Long Hammer IPA
Another long day at the office lead to another last-minute trip to the local Walmart.  This time I walked away with a 12-pack of Red Hook's Long Hammer IPA.  You have all most likely seen a case of the LHI in your local grocery stores, as it is a nationally distributed beer, but honestly I think this was the first time I've ever purchased the beer for myself.  My thinking is if I'm going to go with a cheap/generic beer then I should cut through all the bullshit and get the cheapest, most generic beer available.  I guess you could say that makes me a masochist...and I couldn't disagree.  Weird.

Anyways, so I did a little research before writing this blog to get an understanding of Red Hook and what they do vs. people's opinion of their beer and it looks like there a lot of beer snobs out there are not on the Red Hook train.

Take this little gem from some guy in Missouri: "I have to be honest, when I took the first sip of Long Hammer I thought someone was going to pop out of the closet and tell me it was a joke. This is not an IPA."

...must...not...make...gay joke...but really?  Do people pop out of your closet often?  Is it just to tell you when you've been tricked into drinking a beer you wouldn't like, or do they pop out and say other stuff, too?  Like, "hey that's not really your mom, that's a hooker! LOL!"  Or maybe "hey that's not just a hot pocket, that's a hot pocket with pubes inside! LOL!!!"

beer snobs.  what the fuck.

But what about my completely worthless opinion?  Well as far as generic IPA's go, I would put the Long Hammer into "Buy Again" column.  It was smooth, the taste was enjoyable even if it was not very IPA-ish, and I got pleasantly drunk off.

I will say, though, that I have got a pretty crappy hangover this morning, though.  What the hell is that all about?  I should have made one of these before I left for work today.  Then I could have killed two blogs with one stone.

Damn.

Beer Masters on Facebook
Site Manager - Shannon The extent at which I like beer may border on the ridiculous, but I have always felt that the people who love beer for all the right reasons are the kind of people we need more of in this world.

I want to make beermasters.com a portal for beer enthusiasts and experts from around the world. This is a place to share experiences, favorite beer recipes and pubs and to learn all there is to learn about the art of making and enjoying beer. Think of this place as the best neighborhood pub ever...sure I can't pour you anything from a tap, but as soon as someone invents that star trek food making thing, we will all get hilarious together.

and it will be awesome.
