Beer of the Day #1 - Avery's Hog Heaven
Beer of the Day #1 - Avery's Hog Heaven

Ahhh Hog Heaven, you beautiful, beautiful barleywine...now this is the kind of beer I want gifted to me.
Let's all just take a moment and appreciate the overall awesomeness of the bottle pictured above. First off, it's huge. That is like 3 beers in one. Secondly, that s.o.b. cost me a total of $7. And C: That beer right there? Yeah, it's got almost 10% ABV. So now it's more like 5 beers in one. For $7. And it tastes like candy and sex all mixed together into beer. My only regret about buying the Hog Heaven? I bought ONE. Why did I buy JUST THE ONE?!???
But enough about me, here's the skinny on the beer:
The makers of this fine piece of drinkable hotness are the Avery Brewing Company of Boulder, CO. Their tagline calls Hog Heaven an "intense dry-hope nose and rich malt body" and they describe the taste as a "caramel candy-like finish."
So true.
Hog Heaven is also a silver madal winner from the Great American Beer Festival Now apparently, because this is a barley wine ale and not your usual beer, you can take this Hog Heaven, NOT drink it, and KEEP IT IN YOUR CELLAR for up to three years. WHY? Dear people, why would you do something so weird?
And that is what will almost always separate me from so many beer afficianados out there. I like to drink my beer, not turn it into home decor.
But moving on...so what else did I learn from my very first (I think??) expience with a beer of this caliber?
Buy two bottles, because one is never enough.

About Shannon
Shannon says
The extent at which I like beer may border on the ridiculous, but I have always felt that the people who love beer for all the right reasons are the kind of people we need more of in this world.
I want to make beermasters.com a portal for beer enthusiasts and experts from around the world. This is a place to share experiences, favorite beer recipes and pubs and to learn all there is to learn about the art of making and enjoying beer. Think of this place as the best neighborhood pub ever...sure I can't pour you anything from a tap, but as soon as someone invents that star trek food making thing, we will all get hilarious together.
and it will be awesome.
